Description

With the ability to blend your neck and bridge pickups together, The ObsidianWire Custom Blender Harness is a great way to add tonal diversity to your Fender® Stratocaster®. Wind the blender control back, and you regain the traditional five switch positions you love.

Best of all, ObsidianWire Pro-Wired Electronics are super easy to install, and allow for unlimited solder-less pickup changes with Plug, Play and Enjoy connectors.

The Magic of the Custom Blender Harness:

With a master volume and master tone control the Custom Blender Harness packs your traditional Strat® tones into a smaller space, leaving the third tone control free.

This becomes the blender control, adding the ability to blend the neck and bridge pickups in together. This is amazing for adding a range of musical mids to your lead tone (like the bell like effects David Gilmour gets in his signature Strat) or for adding some twang to your rhythm, just like you find in the middle position on a Tele®. When you need a complete wall of sound, you can even mix all three pickups together by flicking the five way switch to position 2 or 4.

With Blender Control On:

1:Bridge Pickup + Neck Blended in
2:Bridge & Middle Pickup + Neck Blended in
3:Middle Pickup
4:Neck & Middle Pickup + Bridge Blended in
5:Neck Pickup + Bridge Blended in

When it is time to ease back to your traditional positions, simply roll the blender knob off, and it will remove itself completely from the circuit. This returns your neck, middle and bridge pickups back to the vintage positions we all know and love

With Blender Control Off:

1:Bridge Pickup
2:Bridge & Middle Pickup
3:Middle Pickup
4:Neck & Middle Pickup
5:Neck Pickup

To make your tone crystal clear at lower volumes we also include an ObsidianWire Custom Spec Treble Bleed Mod. This prevents tone 'muddiness' at low volumes by allowing high frequencies to pass along a separate path to your amp, rather than being stopped short by the increasing resistance at the volume control.

We build ObsidianWire Pro-Wired Electronics using the world’s best craftsmanship and components:

  • 2 x Obsidian Select Pots (Crafted by CTS) 250k or 500k (+/-6%) (Matched to +/-2%) SPLIT SHAFT
  • 1 x Obsidian Select CTS Blender Pot 250k (+/- 10%) SPLIT SHAFT
  • 1 x Genuine Oak Grigsby 5-Way Switch
  • 1 x Genuine Switchcraft J11 Mono Output jack
  • 1 x Obsidian Select Capacitor (NOS K42Y-2 0.047uf) or (150 Series Polyester Film 0.022uf) (Hand Tested to +/-10%)
  • 1 x Obsidian Select Volume Mod / Treble Bleed - Improved Volume Taper & Clarity
  • 1 x Pre Printed & Easy to Follow Wiring Diagram

Compatibility:

ObsidianWire Pro-Wired Electronics for Strat, are designed to be a direct fit for American and Mexican series Fender Stratocasters. We cannot guarantee that these will fit any other guitar.

These are also excellent upgrades for Japanese Fender & Squier Guitars with some adjustment. In the least you will need to widen the holes in the pick-guard out to around 3/8" or 10mm & get new US spec control knobs for the higher grade electronics.

At ObsidianWire we use US spec, 24 spline, split shaft controls. Using the incorrect size knobs can, and will damage your controls. We recommend that you check your knobs are the correct size and replace them if necessary. If your knobs do not press on easily, slightly crimp the top of the pots shaft together to improve the fit.

Almost perfect

Last year, I had a guitar tech install a "Gilmour" mod on my Highway US strat with noiseless pickups. For some reason (wrong caps or pots maybe), the sound was now pretty dull. When I found out about this Obsidian Wire kit, I immediately got one because: 1- I'm really bad at soldering 2- I really wanted the blender feature 3- It was the same price as the guitar tech The installation was pretty easy. Having noiseless pickups meant I had 2 ground wires per pickup. I managed to install them without soldering. It's not recommended but they seem to hold strongly. If they move, I'll use a soldering iron. That's the only issue I had. For the rest, the blender mode is much better than just on/off addition of the neck pickup. The tone control available for the bridge pickup is also welcome. The pots are really smooth, not too fast but not too slow either. And the treble bleed means no more dullness even at slow volume. I highly recommend it.

These Are Fantastic

Years ago, I installed some Lace Sensor Hot Gold pickups in a Mexican Stratocaster. I used the original wiring harness. Big mistake. I think they are only good for one soldering. My volume knob worked more like a master tone than a volume knob. Some 10+ years later, I decided to do something about it. I decided to upgrade my strat with the Blender Wiring kit by Obsidian. I was pleasantly surprised. I have another Stratocaster with Kinman Woodstocks installed. It has the exact same problem, so I am going to order another one of these fantastic harnesses. Might try the more traditional one, but am not certain yet. It really is nice to be able to blend the neck and bridge together. One master tone knob works really nicely too. Easy to install as well. Thank you Obsidian.
