I purchased and installed the Vintage '3-Way' for Tele® × 1 Loaded Control Plate.
I had no experience replacing controls in a guitar.
The kit ( including the instructions ) exceeded my expectations. The instructions are well written. The kit was easy to install. The controls work great!
I highly recommend this kit.
This is my fourth or fifth order from Obsidian. Honestly, I can do this myself, but why on Earth would I when the build quality of the Obsidian products is out of this world. I have loved every product. The Blender is no different. I wanted the John Frusciante sound. The guitar sounds amazing. My playing still needs work. Maybe another 25 years of playing and I will finally accomplish his sound/style.
Really nice and neat loaded jazz plate, Sounds great
HHS Loaded Pickguard for Strat
ObsidianWire™ Universal Blender G2
ToneRider® THE ALNICO II - TRS4 & (AC2 NICKEL)
I am partial to the versatility of the HSS configuration and wanted to bring life to my SSS guitar. (USA 2009 Fender Standard Stratocaster). This universal blender harness made it even more versatile with the ability to blend neck & bridge pickups to taste, bringing tonal capabilities to a minimum of 9 tones. The quality pots allow you to find the sweet spot in just about every configuration. Plus, I really needed a tone bleed circuit. The ToneRider® pickups are absolutely amazing and have a clarity and articulation that totally achieves that "sound" I've been yearning for. The sound that makes your eyes close in sheer satisfaction.
The build and the components used feel extremely high-quality and you can tell someone put a lot of love putting it together with it's intricate lines and precise wire cuts. Everything down to the switch and provided PureTone output jack just scream quality. Better yet, the shipment only took less than 7 days to get to my doorstep. That's over 12,000 kilometers my friends.
The installation only took me about 25 minutes to perform, simply by following the provided instructions. I'm not a very technical person, but I can follow directions. If I'm being completely honest, the most difficult and time-consuming part of the install, was the removal of the plastic from the pickguard and humbucker after the fact. Again, be slow and methodical about it. Go grab a scotch neat, and chill. Overall, ObsidianWire® gave me an exquisite experience from the unboxing to strumming my first chords, pure magic and delight. I guess my only complaint now is that all my other guitars will be closet queens. Thank you ObsidianWire® for everything!
Knobs fit perfectly on the MKII kit I received as a gift. Kit also fits nicely into my Vega Les Paul which I originally bought in 1984. Only had to open the holes for the pots. Paired with Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded pickups. Sounds awesome. Thanks Obsidian Wire for great products. Simply Awesome.
Love this. The clarity and range of sounds is just unbelievable. Took me a bit longer to install because I had to drill out the pot holes on my Epiphone because they were too small, so just beware of that possibility. Other than that, I would 100% recommend. Worth every penny.
J-bass drop in is a more complicated (more wires) but this p-bass drop-in is a piece of cake.
Brilliant tone and well built. Definitely helped being solder-less!
First time I’ve tried any sort of upgrade. The wiring system makes it super easy
Received & installed my Solderless 7 way harness & Five-Sixties pickup set today, absolutely over the moon with both! Transformed my old Mexi Strat from a sentimental ornament that needed all the electrical TLC a 24yr old Strat could need, to an absolute beast! Cannot fault anything with the quality of harness and pickups, first time using Solderless, definitely a game changer for a perfectionist who's Achilles is soldering. Will definitely be in touch very soon to get a harness for my P90 Les Paul. The pickup set is lush & after nearly half a day playing, I love the versatility of both them & the 7 way! Honestly couldn't find a tone I didn't like, definitely inspiring me to play more again 😁 Anyway, apologies for the long email, I just wanted to commend you for the stellar product & service! Hope to be in touch soon! Many thanks again John
Excellent quality guitar sounds amazing now awesome product
I put this in my Strat to repair a bad volume pot and upgrade the electronics at the same time. What a difference it’s made. Blender adds new tones and has made me love the guitar all over again. I had to dremel a small amount of my guitar body where the knobs and switch goes but I have a Japanese ESP Strat so that wasn’t surpassing. Only needed to remove about 1mm altogether, so simple and straightforward.
I initially received a defective pull-pot on my unit, but contacted Obsidian Wire through the warranty page, and they very quickly shipped me a new one. Customer service was amazing, and the product works great! Sounds fantastic, and much easier to install than hand wiring a 7 way switch. Very impressed with the company, 100% recommend
Have had wiring issues with my Squier Affinity strat for the past few months, so I decided to give this a shot, and it’s worked out amazingly! Fixed all the issues I was having with pickups buzzing, and the blender knob helps to add that extra oomph from the other pickups when you need it. 10/10 product, definitely worth paying for if you want to upgrade your guitar’s electrics
First of all I’d like to say the quality of this wiring harness is insane. Everything feels sturdy and like it will last for a very long time. Knobs and switches are all buttery smooth. Second is the convenience and versatility. This was my first time ever opening up my guitar and working on it and the instructions were easy to follow. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a beginner friendly, built to last harness!
The Item itself works great, The wiring can be tricky, you need patience. It fits "most Epiphones". I have a 2010 Les Paul Standard and I had tp drill out the body, as indicated, and install it backward in order to fit. The wiring diagram are ok. I also included new humbuckers. On those, there is no indication that you need to take off the shrink tubing and separate the black an white wires for split coil operation, but I figured it out.
I enjoyed being able to install product with no need to engage with guitar tech to do the installation and soldering.
Bro I s**t you not, my guitar sounded like it was the same quality of a fender ultra. This blew my f*****g mind! I am truly blown away. Keep up the awesome work Obsidian Wire!
This is the first time I bought this product after countless hours of finding a device that could connect my new pickup to my old guitar.
Finally found this via AI Copilot help.
This is by far a very innovative and extremely easy way to swap pickups on a guitar. No soldering or anything needed.
Product performs well…especially the blender mode.
Wow…. I’m totally satisfied with this purchase.
Very good performers.
There are many manufacturers out there which are fantastic.. obsidian is the best ! Why ? People like me that has “ok” soldering abilities don’t cut the cheese .. in I order to get your pickups to sound the way they are intended you have to be a master at soldering.
Are into bleeds ? This guys have the ones that lose less bass than anything I have try before.. and I been trying them for 40 years🤣
Yes we all know 90% of the sound is in the finger.. right? Well the other 10 is in the electronics . So don’t lose time in soldering … and use it on playing ..God bless
My install was for a Strat build with Fender Ultra Hot Noiseless in the neck and middle and Seymour Duncan Little 59 humbucker bridge. Tried many wiring combinations but the Little 59 was simply too bright. I used the Obsidian wire blender control plate with auto split for position 2, but even the bridge alone was too bright and gutless. Could be the 500k pot? I put it in SSS mode and still the same. Ended up putting the Noiseless hot in the bridge too and tone is as expected.
Hi Drew,
Thanks for your feedback. There are a couple of things to try
- Set the 'Mode ' switch to the SSS / 250k setting. This will tame the highs of the bridge pickup
- Set the bridge pickup further away from the strings. This will reduce high frequencies.
- // OR set the bridge pickup closer to the strings for greater overall output.
If the above does not help, let us know and we will see if there could be something esle causing output issues with the bridge pickup.
I bought for my 2016 Epiphone LP Studio. Reamed out the Holes for the Pots and I installed in less than 30 minutes. I suggest ,if you do not have the correct knobs, buy them with this wiring kit. NO Problems at all. sounds Great.
Nice quality pickguard, but had to sand it quite a lot for it to fit on my MIM Player Tele. Without sanding it would sit over top of the control plate.
Other than that though, awesome product - good price. Obsidian for the win
I put this Obsidian MK II in my Epi LP Custom. I did have to enlarge the holes for for the pots as they didn't fit without modification as (obsidian directions said). The other issue was the output jack was grounding out. This was a simple correction, simply had to rotate jack 180 degrees. Now the good (great!l the rest of the install using Seymour Duncan pearly gates was really straight forward. This guitar nows sound better than my 3 others which cost much more individually. I will definitely purchase again.
