Used with noiseless pickup install in my old fender strat. Easy install. Worked like a charm. Will definitely order from again!
I wrote the below comments in total ignorance.Mathew, I apologize for being a huge jackass. Any issues I had were my faults and not Obsidian Wire. Everything I ordered I received and it was in top notch shape and well packaged. It was in no-way ObsidianWires fault I failed to practice due diligence and read all of the FAC’s and questions others had asked before I placed my order. Mathew wrote back to me personally and was far nicer than I deserved.
Thank you
Pat Walls
I ordered the wire kit with the plate. My order specifically says chrome plate. I ordered black plate and a crawl plate, but that’s OK. I never got the chrome plate either since you deleted my review and I have no way to contact you. I guess it’s the only way I can answer the question why don’t you sell the plates separately then
When a person orders something they at least expect some type of competence from the people they order from. I bought a tele 4 way switch with a black cover and black knobs. I started to put my guitar together today and found out there’s no cover plate for the switch and no knobs. When I pulled up my order it said I ordered a chrome plate. Not in a million years, I HATE chrome. So no I have a 4-way switch with no cover and no knobs. And guess what? You can’t buy them separately which reaches the stratosphere for stupidity. Don’t think I’ll buy from Obsidian again, so disappointed. It’s not that hard.
Thanks Patrick, I appreciate the feedback.
Your order was for the wiring only, which is not the same as our custom loaded control plates.
We will be happy to help you with a return, so you can order the full loaded control plate.

I should have researched this before buying, so it’s not entirely Obsidian’s fault.
I purchased a fully prewired pickguard, but the volume and tone controls were too wide to fit into the control cavity of my Warmoth body. After some digging, I learned that Fender Strat bodies have a slightly wider route in the area where the controls sit. Because of this difference, the Obsidian assembly is designed to fit Fender bodies but won’t properly fit into a Warmoth body. In the end, I had to abandon the prewired assembly and solder the pickups onto a traditional control setup instead.
Again, this isn’t completely their fault, but it would’ve been helpful to know beforehand. A clearer warning or disclaimer about compatibility would be appreciated.
This was the 3rd guitar which I have installed an obsidian in. The quality, tone options, it’s just awesome. Thank you
Wire install is about as straightforward as possible.
Suggest the if your pickup wire has the flexible metal insulation, skinny that rascal as much as you can.
Also, found out for my application, the washerw needed to be on the backside of the control plate.
Had a custom 7 way Gilmore mod assembly fired to my delux Strat with new Seymour Duncan pick ups , now it sings like it should letting me get those clean pure tones or overdriven madness. So impressed with obsidian, ordered from uk on a Wed arrived at my door the next Tuesday !! Thanks so much
Used it to upgrade a Squier Affinity Series Telecaster. The addition of the treble bleed and pickup series mode is awesome and adds a great tone. Dropped right in, only had to lengthen one pickup wire.
The prewired SSS Stratocaster Pickguard with Tonerider Classic Blues pickups has brought new life to my 2012 MIM Strat. It went from my least played guitar to the one I pick up most often. It’s pretty much a new guitar - the pots, pickups and puretone output jack all contribute to an amazing sound. On top of that The ObsidianWire Custom Blender Gen2 allows for some interesting tones. The installation is very simple and only took maybe 20 minutes all together including a restring. With that being said, if I could go back I would get the HSS variant due to the style of music I like to play.
It was super easy to install and all the components seem top quality. Would definitely get some more of their products in the future.
I emailed with questions about which product was correct for what l needed, got a quick response and the product was shipped quickly. Installation was a breeze! This is definitely my go to for all future mods . Thank you
My Fender Strat went from hanging on the wall to being my new favorite guitar now that I can tame down the bridge pickup with the master tone and blend controls.
Amazing tool but do not match with my squier cv 50 telecaster cover plate, I think they push for buy the full kit.
I've got ObsidianWire harnesses in 5 or 6 of my guitars now and I LOVE them! I swap pups a lot and this makes it a breeze...love the universal with the 250k/500k switch. Thanks y'all!
It is my first time using a product like this. It was super easy and everything sounds great. It was a pleasure working with the company. They were fast, responsive very pleased. I look forward to working with them again. I would recommend it.
I wanted a no nonsense way to hear the difference in the wirings. The catch, this needed to fit in a Gibson Les Paul Modern Lite with it's half thickness body. Perfect.
Perfect wiring harness to convert my SSS Strat to an HSS. I threw in a set of Lace Sensor Gold HSS set and it made my MIM Strat the only Strat I’ll ever need.
I had tex mex Pickups that couldn't cut thru the mix. The new setup 7 way with blender sounds awesome. I can maintain the original strat sound and also blend in the humbucker for more rounded sound when Needed
I have just installed 2 Les Paul MK II Split Coil harnesses into 2 different Les Pauls. I have found the easy to install. Do not have the need to wire in cable adapters into harness as pickup change is easy and can be done quickly compared to having to desolder and solder new pickups.
Also very articulate and have the ability to change between 50's and 60's wiring with the flick of a switch
I replaced an active preamp with passive switch on my favorite 5-string jazz and this thing sounds so good. More articulate and open sounding vs. how it sounded with the pre bypassed. My bass, a BassMods K534 is known in gospel and funk for a hi-fi jazz sound and super easy playability. However, I'm a rootsy reggae/jazz/soul player and wanted to capture the classic jazz tone for mostly finger styling playing with flatwounds - installing this pre-amp did it. This gives me a modern, super easy playing 5-string with a rich jazz bass tone with more clarity and range through the 2 volumes and single tone knob. I like modding basses but soldering is something I struggle with. I'm all thumbs when it comes to wiring but I was able to do it with some trial and error in under an hour. If my pickups had more identifiable wiring, it would've taken me alot less - not the fault of the harness. Those instructions were clear and the unit is super solid.
Ultimate wiring JP mod for my Les Paul.Love the push-pull controls &onboard effects, with the switchable 50's or 60's wiring, there's a lot to play with,i just love it! Thank you Obsidian Wire guess you love guitars to. Michael.
First time I’ve ever wired anything up — outside of my ol’ lady — and I gotta say, same result: I was awesome! The Obsidian Vintage Plus for Strats made me better than I am. Now my homemade Strat ( Van Halen look, but with wood inlays) has electricity, and I can make her scream too!
Very happy with the outcome. It was a perfect fit in Fender American Pro II Strat. I used Suhr Thornbuckers with the Obsidian, install was easy, everything worked, and the guitar sounds great.
The good news, guitar now sounds amazing. Better than when new and the 50’s/60’s switching is great. I chose the 50’s but good to know I can change anytime. Both sound great. Once you digest the installation guides it’s fairly easy to install and wire even for a first timer like me. Note - the video is misleading. It isn’t clear that you need to ground the bare wire on both Pups but you do. My cavity was also routed such that the fixed position of the push/pull neck volume pot circuit board didn’t fit. I needed to remove some wood to get the board in.
